Cheap chips, extended ordering and more…!
Filed under: Weekly newsletter; What do you think? Leave a comment Tagged as: F Jackson & Son, Golden Cup Yoxall, Yoxall & Kings Bromley ScoutsAll our lovely suppliers are back off holiday now, so all the shops are fully open and waiting for your orders! It just remains now for all our lovely customers to come home and settle back down into their usual ordering patterns!
As it’s a bank holiday this Monday, the order deadline is extended to 10.00am on Tuesday to help out those who have better things to do with their Monday!!
Just for this week to clear some stock that will just have hit its’ best before date, Glennan’s vegetable crisps are on offer at just 75p for 100g packet, so get your order in quick if you’re a fan and fancy a nibble!
Green peppers and freshly grown leeks from F Jacksons & Sons in Melbourne are now back in the greengrocers and we hope to have apples and pears ready soon. (I’m chuffed that I managed to grow just a few of my own leeks, cabbages, beans and onions this year as I know some of you have too. It’s a real ‘Good Life’ feeling, isn’t it?!).
Advanced notice for your diary of the SCOUTS FUN DAY – Sunday 6th September from 12 noon in the field behind The Golden Cup in Yoxall. The Yoxall and Kings Bromley Scout Group, (which actually seems to have more members from Hanbury and Newborough than anywhere else!) is raising money for their trip to Pennsylvania in 2011 and would love your support. I’ll remind you again next week but if you like burgers, hot dogs, chocolate fondue, tug of war, penalty shoot out with the legendary Mark Sale, tombola, skittles, darts and much more more..then you know where you’ll be next Sunday! See you there!!
Enjoy the long weekend this weekend and let’s hope we get just a little bit more sunshine as we head into September…!
Best Wishes,
Jenny

Horseradish hunt
Filed under: Our Produce Diary; What do you think? Leave a comment Tagged as: F Jackson & Son, horseradish, MelbourneWhen I was a little girl, horseradish grew in abundance in my Uncle George’s orchard and I can remember the agony of peeling it and grating it with my nana to make fresh horseradish sauce…
I was intrigued therefore this week, when I received an email from a customer to see if I could find some. Well a trip down to Suffolk was unfortunately out of the question and said orchard has long since been taken out and put to other use, so I had to find another source. Having drawn a blank with Diana of Jam Today (her greengrocer gets it in from Germany!!), I turned to Richard (of F Jackson & Son) in Melbourne who has all sorts of things growing in his 30 acres and hey presto he had a few roots growing by his garage. The little darling dug it up and passed it on FOC..now that’s service and my customer certainly thought so!
If you’ve got anything growing that’s unusual or surplus in your garden, then do let me know as it’s great to be able to match up produce with grateful users! At bookclub last night, a friend (and customer!) handed round some spare apricots she’d grown in her greenhouse – boy, were they delicious and I just love it when things like that happen…
