    Go slow..

    Filed under: What's On;

Slow Food is an International Organisation that is slowly
gathering momentum in the UK.  Slow Food motto
is ‘Good, clean and fair’, promoting delicious food and wonderful
    producers.

Slow Food Peak District and Staffordshire is a new branch of
the organisation, aiming to shout about the wonderful produce that we have
    right on our doorstep.

The first event is being held at Freedom Brewery in Abbots
Bromley, Staffordshire – Britain’s first lager only producing microbrewery, situated
on top of a natural underground lake of Burton brewing water – the world’s
    finest hard water for brewing.

The event will start at 7:00pm with a tour of the brewery,
followed by a sausage making demonstration, using local Packington Pork, beer
    tasting and a BBQ.

The evening will be a fun, informal event discovering some of
the county’s finest producers whilst enjoying great food and meeting fellow
    food enthusiasts.

The event is free to attend but people must register
themselves on the guest list.  To
    register simply e-mail clare@seasonedcourses.com or calling 01283 810275

Future events planned will include wine tastings, cookery
    courses, demonstrations and restaurant visits.

Such fantastic community spirit is great to behold as local women rally together to form a new WI group in Rangemore and Tatenhill, near Burton on Trent. With 34 members aged between 29 and 80, from as far afield as Bretby and Stapenhill it just goes to show that there is still huge support for the principles and values upheld by the WI. One of the latest gauntlets they are running is the Love Food Champions Project showing how Love Food groups across England successfully cut their food waste by half! Love food, Hate waste!

On Saturday 24th May the new group stages their first big event at Tatenhill Village Hall from 2 till 5 with a skittles competition and hog roast, supplied by The Butcher, the Baker and Icecream Maker from Barton Marina. Plus there is also a wide variety of WI stalls and local businesses purveying their wares – including of course your favourite local food source, Our Produce.
